Garrett Bradford: Music

Son Of A Gun

Written by Garrett Bradford and Dan Roberts/GarrettBradfordMusic/Old Boots Music (BMI/ASCAP)

Well I try to make a livin’ with this guitar,

but sometimes I come up short

Folks I know tell me to give up the dream and go find some steady work

But I believe in the songs I sing and some day it’s gonna pay

And I ain’t gonna quit till I hit the top so just get out of my way

CHORUS:

Some day all them folks (girls / old boss man) will be a wishin’

That they’d have paid a little more attention

To this slow-talkin, honky- tonkin, guitar-pickin son of a gun

Well I got to likin’ this girl one time so I asked her to the prom

I thought I had it in the bag but I guess that I thought wrong

She turned me down with a stone cold heart,

Never even told me why

But I sure didn’t lose no sleep at night

Lord knows I did not cry

CHORUS

Well, all that normal thinkin’ started messin’ with my mind,

I put down this old guitar and took on a nine to five

But workin late on Friday nights gave me no time to play

So I sang that Johnny Paycheck song and told ‘em they could keep my pay

CHORUS

Lord knows I’m a slow talkin, honky-tonkin, guitar-pickin son of a gun
